Our Mission
WERLA is a state and federally licensed 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and release sick, injured or orphaned wildlife back into their natural environment and to educate the community about conservation and Louisiana wildlife.

Their Journey

RESCUE – Each day compassionate individuals come in contact with wildlife in need and take action to intervene. WERLA is the only federally and state licensed wildlife rehabilitation organization in northern Louisiana. Over 1,000 animals a year come into our care.

RELEASE– The goal for all wildlife at WERLA is to be rehabilitated to full health and returned back to the wild into their natural habitat. Length of treatment is heavily dependent on injury severity, time of year, species, and age. Updates and success stories can be found on our Facebook page!

REHABILITATE – Our team members work tirelessly to provide high quality, individualized rehabilitation for each animal in our care. Habitat construction, flight pens, feeding regimens and simulation of natural environment are essential to facilitate their reentry back to the wild.

EDUCATE– We work to educate the public for the preservation and conservation of Louisiana’s wildlife and their habitats. WERLA is proud to enrich our community with a greater understanding of the key services that wildlife provides to maintain our rich environment.
